Amy Butcher is an essayist and the author of Visiting Hours (Blue Rider Press/Penguin, forthcoming April 2015). Additional work appears or is forthcoming in The Paris Review online, Tin House online, The Iowa Review, Gulf Coast, Fourth Genre, The Rumpus, Hobart and Brevity, among others. She is the recent recipient of the 2014 Iowa Review Award in nonfiction, as judged by David Shields, as well as Colgate University's 2012 Olive B. O'Connor Creative Writing Fellowship and scholarships and grants from the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, the Stanley Foundation for International Research, the Academy of American Poets, and Word Riot Inc. She is the editor of Defunct and an Assistant Professor of English at Ohio Wesleyan University, where she's at work on an ethnographic essay on the working community of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.
